Abstract
Ultraviolet radiation from the sun transmits electromagnetic waves which cause damage to the skin, including sunburn, erythematogenic and carcinogenic potensials. Black rice contains tocopherols, tocoeritanols, flavonoids, alkaloids, tannins as antioxidants and are able to provide a protective effect against UVB rays. This study aims to determine the activity of sunscreen gel black rice ethanol extract (Oryza sativa L. Indica) with variations of carbopol 940 as gelling agent. The extraction method used in this research is extraction with 96% ethanol. Black rice ethanol extract was formulated into 3 formulas with variations of carbopol 940 extract 0,5%; 0,75%; 1% and negatif control. Black rice ethanol extract gel preparations were tested for physical quality and gel stability and then analyzed using a UV-Vis spechtrophotometer and the SPSS value was calculated using the mansur formula. Testing data were analyzed with SPSS. The results of the study obtained the SPF value of the black rice ethanol extract sunscreen gel preparation F1 as negative control, F2, F3 and F4 respectively 0,60±0,02; 16,01±0,09; 16,50±0,03; dan 16,80±0,05. The significant decrease in activity after stability test was carried out. Gel with good physical quality and stability at various concentrations of 1% carbopol.
