Abstract

Priyono, A. P. 2023. Differences in Total Cholesterol Levels in Obese and Non-Obese Elderly Women. D4 Health Analyst Study Program, Faculty of Health Sciences, Setia Budi University. Elderly women experience hormonal changes, namely a decrease in estrogen hormones that occur during menopause, this is one of the causes of increased cholesterol in elderly women. In addition, lifestyle changes can affect the elderly to be less active, which will increase the risk of obesity in elderly women because there is a buildup of fat so that it can increase the occurrence of increased total cholesterol levels in elderly women. The purpose of this study was to determine the difference in total cholesterol levels in obese and non-obese elderly women. Type of observational analytical research with cross sectional method and sample collection techniques using purposive sampling as many as 30 samples of obese elderly women and 30 samples of non-obese elderly women by observation, interviews, and filling out questionnaires. Primary data were obtained from total cholesterol examination results, then normality tests were carried out using Shapiro Wilk. From the normality test, normal distributed data results were obtained and continued statistical tests using the Independent t-test with significant results p<0.05. The results of the Independent Sample t-test showed sig values in the categories of obese and non-obese elderly women of sig = 0.001 (sig<0.05) which means there is a significant difference in total cholesterol levels in obese and non- obese elderly women.
