Abstract

The prevalence of hypertension increases with lifestyle changes such as smoking, obesity, physical inactivity, and psychosocial stress. Improved knowledge and adherence of drug use also affect the increase in the quality of life of patients with hypertension. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of the level of knowledge on quality of life with drug use as a variable adherence among hypertensive patients. This research is a study using cross sectional method, using a survey to see the effect of the level of knowledge on quality of life and compliance of drug use as an intermediate variable. Subjects that patients with hypertension, the captured data is data level of knowledge, use of medication adherence and quality of life using a questionnaire HK-LS, MMAS and WHOQOL-BREF. Furthermore, the data were analyzed using path analysis. The subjects were obtained in this study a total of 39 patients with hypertension. The results of the questionnaire level of knowledge with category at 61.11%. The results of the compliance questionnaire drug use with category amounted to 90.02%. The results of quality of life questionnaire with category amounted to 66.03%. Significant relationship between the level of knowledge on quality of life with the compliance of drug use as intermediate variable had a significant effect on the percentage effect of 56.90%, which means that the compliance of drug use as a significant influence between the variables that can increase the percentage of the effect of the level of knowledge on quality of life.
