Abstract

Lemongrass contain chemical contents of sitral and geraniol, while mahogany seeds contain chemical contents such metyl ester which are suspected as an antibacterial agent. The purpose of this research is to know whether lemongrass essential oil (Cymbopogon citratus DC.Stapf) and mahogany seeds (Swietenia mahagoni L. Jacq.) or concencration combination of both materials have an antibacterial activity and to know the most effective activity toward Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 25923.. The lemongrass essential oil is obtained by vapor distillation and the mahogany seeds oil obtained by pressing dried mahogany seeds. The solvent in this research is aceton p.a. This research use lemongrass essential oil, mahogany seeds oil and combination of both materials. Each substances with concentration of 6.25%, 12.5%, 25%, also with comparison of 1:1, 1:2 and 2:1, with positive control using ciprofloxacin. This research concluded that the most effective power drag obtained in giving of singular essential oil with diameter of the power drag of 20.75 21.50 mm. The most effective concentration combination of lemongrass essential oil and mahogany seeds oil is on 25% concentration with comparison of 1:2 with the power drag diameter of 18,97±1,88 mm Keywords: Antibacterial activity, lemongrass (Cympobogon critratus DC.
