Abstract

Memory reduction was influenced by oxidative stress, a condition that describes an imbalance between the production of Reactive Oxygen Species with the body's antioxidant defense system. Mangosteen leaves contain compounds that function to capture free radicals. In this study, the fraction of ethyl acetate and mangosteen’s leaf water fraction was used to determine the improvement of mice memory and to know the effective dose of both fractions. This study usedMorris Water Maze method with used 45 mice divided into 9 groups, each group consisting of 5 mice and divided into normal group, postive, negative, and 3 dosage variants fraction of ethyl acetate and water fraction. Induction of 10% alcohol was given to all groups except the normal group. The test data were analyzed statistically with one way ANOVA. The results of the test with Morris Water Maze showed the percentage of different memory improvement in each test group. The fraction of ethyl acetate and mangosteen’s leaf water fraction of 50 mg / kg BW, 75 mg / Kg BW, and 100 mg / Kg BW gave effect to improve memory. Based on the research, it was concluded that ethyl acetate fraction and mangosteen’s leaf water fraction of 100 mg / Kg BW was an effective dose that could improve the memory of mice.
