Abstract
(Cosmos caudatus Kunth.) leaves containing flavonoids, saponins, alkaloids and tannins This research aims to determine the activity of n-hexane fraction, ethyl acetate fraction, water fraction, and ethanolic extract of Kenikir leaf as antibacterial against the Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 25923. Kenikir leaves were extracted by maceration method using 70% ethanol solvent, then continued with fractination used n-hexane, ethyl acetate, and water solvent. The antibacterial activity used diffusion method concentrated of 50%; 25%; and 12.5%, while dilution method with concentrated of 50%; 25%; 12.5%; 6.25%; 3.125%; 1.563%; 0.781%; 0.391%; 0.196%; and 0.098%. The positive control used ciprofloxacin5µg and negative control used 5 % of DMSO The results showed that extract, n-hexane fraction, ethyl acetate fraction, and water fraction have antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 25923. The largest diameter of inhibitory zone was ethyl acetate at concentration of 50% with mean inhibition zone is 18.56 mm. The most effective fraction of Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 25923 is the ethyl acetate fraction, so it was followed by dilution method and the result of Minimum Killing Concentrationis 3.125%.
