Abstract
Avocado leaf extract (Persea americana, Mill) has anti-inflammatory, analgesic, and antifungal activities. Avocado leaves contain chemical compounds which are saponin, tannin, flavonoid, alkaloid and triterpenoid / steroid. This research aims to determine the antifungal activity of the fraction of n-hexane, ethyl acetate and water from avocado leaves methanolic extract against Candida albicans ATCC 10231. Avocado leaf powder was extracted with soxhlet method and methanol solvent. The methanol extract then was fractionated with n-hexane, ethyl acetate, and water solvents. Avocado leaf extract and fraction were tested for their antifungal activity against Candida albicans ATCC 10231 used diffusion method. The concentration in the diffusion method were 50%, 25%, and 12,5%. Analysis to determine the most active fraction in inhibiting Candida albicans ATCC 10231 used ANOVA twoway statistic. The results showed that methanol extract, n-hexane fraction, ethyl acetate and water have antifungal activity. The ethyl acetate fraction is the most active fraction at consentration of 50%, 25% and 12,5% in row has made inhibitory diameter result of 25,67 mm, 23,33 mm and 21,17 mm. The TLC results showed that ethyl acetate fraction contains flavonoid and triterpenoid. Keywords: avocado leaf, antifungal, Candida albicans
