Abstract

This research aimed to find out the relationship between interpersonal competence and assertive behavior of adolescent. The hypothesis proposed was “there is a positive relationship between interpersonal competence and assertive behavior of adolescent. The subject of research was grade students of SMA Regina Pacis Surakarta, aged between 15 up to 18 years old taken using purposive sampling technique. The subject of research consisted of 66 subject grade students of SMA Regina Pacis Surakarta with of male students; 26 students and female students; 40 students. The instruments used were assertive behavior scale and interpersonal competence scale. The data analysis used for hypothesis testing was Pearson‟s Product Moment correlational technique with SPSS 23.0 for Windows release help. The result of analysis showed that the coefficient of correlation ( ) = 0,531 with p = 0,000 (p < 0,01), it proved that there is a very significant and positive correlation between interpersonal competence and assertive behavior of adolescent; for that reason, the hypothesis the author proposed was supported. Based on the data, it result the highest percentage on interpersonal competence variable at 46,96% which is belonged to medium classification, while assertive behavior variable the highest percentage at 34,84% which included in also medium classification.
