Abstract

Inflammatory is a protective response of the body to injury, characterized by red, heat and pain due to oedema. Treatment of Inflammatory can be done use steroid and non steroid drugs. One of the side effects of non steroidal drugs can cause disorder to damage of gastrointestinal. The purpose of the research was to determine the anti-inflammation activity of banda cabbage leaf and its safety on the gastrointestinal tract. The banda cabbage leaf was extracted by maceration method use ethanol 96% solvent. Tests of anti-inflammation and gastrointestinal were divided into five groups, that were group of negative control (CMC-Na 0.5%), groups of positive control (diclofenac sodium 4.5 mg/kg BW, celecoxib 9 mg/kg BW, and methylprednisolone 0.36 mg/kg BW)), group of test ethanol extract of banda cabbage leaf dose of 400 mg/kg BW. Anti- inflammatory test use Rat hind paw oedema method carrageenan 1%-induced, whereas gastrointestinal safety test observed macroscopically and microscopically use severity scores of ulcer. Data analysis use Saphiro-wilk test then continued with one way ANOVA test. The results show that ethanol extract of banda cabbage leaf dose of 400 mg/kg BW could provide anti-inflammatory effect comparable with groups of celecoxib and methylprednisolone and show gastric safety equivalent with negative group.
