Abstract
Pucuk merah leaf (Syzygium myrtifolim.Walp) was the leaf that have an antioxidant and antidiabetic effects.This study aims to knew the antioxidant effect of pucuk merah leaf by in vitro and in vivo as well as to know effective dose in improving glutathione peroxidase enzyme. Ethanolic extract of pucuk merah leaf was tested due to the antioxidant activity by in vitro use free radical DPPH with IC50 value parameters. Antioxidant tested by in vivo at this study using was performed in alloxan-induced diabetic rats with elevated parameters of glutathione peroxidase enzyme activity in rat liver. The data of enzyme activity obtained were analyzed by One Way Anova (p<0,05) than continued by tukey test. The result of this study showed that the ethanolic extract of pucuk merah leaf had antioxidant activity. Antioxidant activity ethanolic extract of Pucuk merah leaf by in vitro test have an IC50 as 53, 46 μg/ml, this shows pucuk merah leaf have strong antioxidant. The result at in vivo test had an activity was able to increased level of glutathione peroxidase enzyme in the effective dose at 150 mg/kg BB with glutathione peroxidase enzyme level of 63,28 U / mg and had significantly different with diabetes control ( p <0.05).
