Abstract

Tenebrio sp. are a kinds of insecta that easily found in Indonesia. This insecta not only become agricultural pests, but also frequently used as bird feed. Preliminary research showed that Tenebrio sp. had various biological activities such as antidiabetic and hepatoprotective. This study aimed to evaluate the influence of Tenebrio sp. extract in rats given for 28 consecutive days. In this study there were fifty Wistar strain rats (25 males and 25 females) aged 2-3 months, were randomly divided into five groups. Group I as negative control group and group II to group IV given a dose of Tenebrio sp. extract 10, 100, 1000 mg/kg, and satellite group orally once daily for 28 days. Observations made in this study that is measurement of SGPT SGOT levels, and liver histopathologic profile. SGPT and SGOT levels were obtained and analyzed using statistical test of normality, homogeneity test, One Way ANOVA test, and also Paired T-test. The results that administration of Tenebrio sp. extract does not give toxic effect on the liver to hepatic biochemical changes were seen in the levels of SGPT and SGOT blood test animals showed no significant changes (p˃0,05) and the result of liver histopathologic profile showed quantity of normal cells more than necrosis cells.
