Abstract

The awareness in body image in adolescence, creates obsession in controlling body weight. Consciousness development in physical attraction plays a major role with the connection to social relationship, hence causing different responds in the society. The social demands also the social standard regarding the ideal standard for body shape makes depression and frustration. The social judgement and standard are indirectly influence on how adolescence on her seeing herself. The emergence of television provides information in the form of commercial product and how to get slim body make it easier for adolescence and image provided are persuasive also continuously watched indirectly changes the adolescence images of an ideal body. The aim of this research to find correlations between intensity in watching slimming commercial on television with adolescence body image. The subject in this research are adolescence in PANGUDI LUHUR SANTO YOSEF Surakarta high school as much as 70 people with age criteria between 15-18 years old. Tools used are the intensity of watching slimming commercial and body image scale. Based on the data research the results of correlation coefficient =0,242 with p=0,043. With this results show significant correlation between intensity in watching slimming commercial on television with adolescence body image, thus hypothesis proposed can be acknowledged. It means the higher the intensity of watching slimming commercial the higher the body image and in opposite the lower the intensity watching slimming commercial the lower the body image on adolescence.
