Abstract
Decrease in antioxidants activity in the body can lead to an increase in Reactive Oxygen Species (ROS) that cause decreased in memory function. Rosemary (Rosmarinus officinalis L.) has a high antioxidants activity. This study aimed to determine the effect of ethanol extract of rosemary (Rosmarinus officinalis L.) to the improvement of memory in mice and was to know the optimal dose of ethanol extract of rosemary improves memory in mice. The study divided into six groups of test animals, all group were given induced trimethyltin except the normal control . Each group were given treatment, the negative control were given CMC 1%, the positive control were given ginkgo biloba and the other three groups were given ethanol extract of rosemary at a dose of 140 mg/kg BB; 280 mg/kg BB; 560 mg/kg BB. Data of morris water maze test latency time were analyzed by two-way ANOVA test and then Tukey test. Morris water maze test showed that there were significant differences between normal control, negative control with treatment control. From the research known that all of doses of ethanol extract of rosemary has the effect of memory enhancement. The dose of 560 mg/kg BB has the optimal effect than the dose of 140 mg/kg BB and 280 mg/kg BB and have an effect there was no significant difference with ginkgo biloba. Based on the research result can be concluded that ethanol extract rosemary (Rosmarinus officinalis L.) can improve and enhance memory function in mice. Keywords : enhancement memory, morris water maze test, Rosmarinus officinalis L.
