Abstract

Hypercholesterolemia is a condition in which cholesterol levels in the blood exceeds normal limits. High levels of blood cholesterol is a serious problem that can be a risk factor for disease occurs. This study aims to determine the effect of ethanol extract of leaves jamblang (Syzygium Cumini (L.) Skeels) to decrease LDL levels and increase HDL levels in male rats wistar strain and determine the most effective dose for lowering LDL levels and increase HDL levels in the blood male rats wistar strain. This study used 30 test animals were divided into six test groups and each group consisted of 5 male rats. Normal control group, negative group, positive control group (simvastatin), variations in dose group I extract 100 mg / 200g BB, group II variation extract dose of 200 mg / 200 g, group III dose variation extract 400 mg / 200 g of body weight. Animal tests measured levels of HDL and LDL levels at day 0, day 14, day 28. Data were analyzed using two-way ANOVA. The results of this study concluded that the leaf extract jamblang most effective in lowering LDL levels and increase HDL levels in test animals was 400 mg / 200 g BB with 50.01% decrease in LDL and HDL increase of 47.58%.
