Abstract

Kedondong (Spondias dulcis Soland.ex.Park) has been utilized by people for treatment of various diseases. Kedondong leaf contains flavonoids, saponins, tannins and alkaloids are efficacious as an antihistamine, antiviral, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, antibacterial and anticonvulsants. Public perception that drugs derived from natural products are safer and less toxic than chemical drugs. This study aims to determine the subchronic toxicity of ethanol extract of kedondong leaves to changes of SGOT and SGPT and liver histopathology white male rats. Rats were divided into 5 groups with a total of 40 rats: the control group was given the CMC, the first dose group were given ethanol extract of leaves kedondong of 400mg / kg, group II dose of 800mg / kg, group III dose and as a satellite of 1600mg / kg for 28 days. SGOT and ALT data obtained on days 0, 7, 14, 21 and 28. Data were analyzed using two-way ANOVA. Rats in the CMC group, dose I, II, III sacrificed to see histopathological liver on day 29 and the satellite group on day 42. The results showed ethanol extract of kedondong leaves can increase levels of SGPT and SGOT, but not toxic. Histopathological results obtained cell damage in the CMC group, dose I, II, III and satellite by 15%, 18%, 27%, 40% and 35%.
