Abstract
Red betel is one of the plants many used as traditional medicine one of them as an anti-inflammatory. The purpose of this study was to determine the effects of red betel extract and the effects raised in terms of weight, toxic symptom and the parameters of Blood Urea Nitrogen (BUN) levels, creatinine levels and histopathology of animal test. Extraction using a method with maceration method. This study was used 50 male and female rats divided into 5 groups. The negative control group was given solution of CMC 0.1%; methanol extracts of red betel leaf (200 mg/kg BW, 400 mg/kg BW, 800 mg/kg BW, satellite 800 mg/kg BW); conducted for 28 days and satellite group plus 14 days to see the reversible effect. Observations seen any weight gain , toxic effects , parameter levels of BUN and creatinine , and histopathology. The results of this study showed that the methanol extract of red betel leaf orally for 28 days could increase body weight in white male and female rats as well as did not cause toxic effect on kidney seen from parameters of Blood Urea Nitrogen (BUN), creatinine levels and histopathology of animal test.
