Abstract

Hypertension was a cardiovascular disease with high blood pressure. The disease was becoming one of the main public health problem in Indonesia and the world. This study was aimed to describe the use of drugs, the appropriateness of using the drug to a hospital formulary and JNC 7 guidelines as well as taking medication adherence in hypertensive outpatients in dr. Soehadi Prijonegoro Sragen District Hospital. This study was an observational descriptive study by using purposive sampling method in hypertensive outpatients in dr. Soehadi Prijonegoro Sragen District Hospital. The data source about drug use is information that was recorded in the patient medical record. The appropriateness of using the drug compared to a hospital formulary and JNC 7 guidelines as well as taking medication adherence was measured using a Morisky Medication adherence Scale (MMAS) questionnaire that is used to look at medication adherence in hypertensive patients. The results showed that the most prescribed drugs were a class CCB amlodipine of 56.3%. The suitability of the use of antihypertensive drugs in patients with hypertension was 88.9% according to the hospital formulary, and 100% according to the JNC 7 guidelines. Assessments of adherence showed that patients with high levels of adherence was 26.5%, moderate adherence was 58.2% and low adherence was 15.3%. Keywords: hypertension, use of drugs, adherence
