Abstract

The leaves of the stevia has some activites chemical content, such as diterpene glycosides (Steviosida, rebaudiosida, dulkosida), saponins, alkaloids, flavonoids and polyphenols that can be used as medicinal plants. The results of previous studiesd of stevia leaf is a plant that is used for the treatment of diabetes. This study aims to determine the antidiabetic activity of ethyl acetate and water fraction leaf stevia (Stevia rebaudiana) and the dose is effective in lowering blood glucose levels. Extraction was done by maceration method using ethanol 96 %. The test method was induced by alloxan. The test animals were divided into 6 groups, each group consisted of 5 male rats, that was: first groupwas negative control (CMC 0,5 %), second group was (glibenclamide), third group wasethyl acetate fraction at a dose of 0,2 g / 200 g of BW rat, fourth group was ethyl acetate fraction at a dose of 0,8 g / 200 g of BW rat, fifth group was fraction of water fraction at a dose of 0,2 g / 200 g of BW rats and group sixth group was fraction of water fraction at a dose 0,8 g / 200 g of BW rats. All groups by induced on five days (after fasted for 16 hours) by intraperitoneally. Treatment was given 3 days after the induction of alloxan. Examination of blood sugar levels is done on the 3rd day, 7th, and 10th day after administration of the test preparation. The test results showed that the ethyl acetate fraction and water fraction of stevia leaves with a dose (0,2 g / 200 g of BW rat and 0,8 g / 200 g of BW rat) lowering blood glucose levels. The ethyl acetate fraction and water fraction of stevia leaves are effective in lowering blood glucose levels at a dose 0,2 g / 200 g of BW.
