Abstract
Malaria is a disease caused by Plasmodium sp. White tumeric rhizomes (Curcuma zedoaria) is a plant that is used as an anticancer allegedly efficacious as antiplasmodium. Efficacious compounds are flavonoids, saponins and essential oil. This study aims to determine antiplasmodium activity of ethanolic extract and fractions of white turmeric rhizomes (Curcuma zedoaria) against Plasmodium falciparum strain FCR-3, determine activity of the fraction antiplasmodium nhexane, ethyl acetate, and water from ethanolic extract of white tumeric rhizomes (Curcuma zedoaria) against Plasmodium falciparum strain FCR-3 expressed in IC50 values. The extraction method used in this research is the maceration using 70% ethanol and fractionation using n-hexane, ethyl acetate, and water for the solvents. Antiplasmodium activity test was carried out in vitro in cultured Plasmodium falciparum strain FCR-3 with a candle jar method by Trager and jensen. IC50 values were calculated using probit analysis SPSS 18.0. Results of research rhizome ethanolic extract active as antiplasmodium white tumeri rhizome with IC50 16.027 µg/ml, n-hexane fraction with IC50 of 10.661 µg/ml, ethyl acetate 1.463 µg/ml and water fraction of 8.163 µg/ml active also active as antiplamodium. Keywords : Curcuma zedoaria, Plasmodium falciparum,IC50
