Abstract

Jamblang leaves (syzigium cumini (L.) Skeels) can be a traditional medicine as an agent to lower total cholesterol level and abdominal fat. This study aims to determine the effect of ethanol extract of leaves jamblang to the decrease of total cholesterol and abdominal fat in mice given a high-fat diet. The extraction method used was macerate with 70% ethanol. This study uses 30 animals test rats were divided into normal control, negative control, positive control, dose I (100 mg / 200 g BW), dose II (200 mg / 200 g BW), dose III (400 mg / 200 g BB). The test preparation is given for 14 days and the data in the test statistics. The average levels of total cholesterol and abdominal fat in normal controls 94.1 ± 2.2 and 0.55 ± 1.7140, negative control 213.2 ± 3.2 and 1.30 ± 3.1209 104.8 ± positive control 2.2 and 2.0552 ± 1.36, the first dose of 156.6 ± 3.8 and 0.86 ± 2.7141 second dose of 125.3 ± 3.5 and 0.28 ± 1.7341 III dose 103 ± 1.9 and 0.06 ± 1.1114. Tests on a dose variation most effective to lower total cholesterol and abdominal fat is dose III (Extract 400 mg / 200 g BW).
