Abstract

Mangosteen (Garcinia mangostana Linn.) leaves contains flavonoid and tannin compound that has been used as antioxidant. Antioxidant compounds can neutralize free radical and prevent damage to the pancreas. This study aims to determine the activity of pancreatic histopathology repaired of mangosteen leaves extract in white male rats induced by alloxan. Mangosteen leaves were remacerated by ethanol 70%. The conditions of diabetic for rats asthe test animals were induced by alloxan dose of 150 mg/kg BW. The test animal were divided into 6 groups: normal control, negative control of 0.5% CMC, positive control glibenclamide (0.45 mg/kg BW), mangosteen leaves extract (65 mg/kg BW), mangosteen leaves extract (130 mg/kg BW), mangosteen leaves extract (260 mg/kg BW). Test animals were treated for 28 days and on day 29th day test animals were sacrificed and pancreatic histopathology performed with Hematoxylin Eosin (HE) staining. The parameters observed were the general morphology of the pancreas, the percentage of necrosis, and measured the diameter of the islets of Langerhans. The results showed that mangosteen leaf extract dose of can repaired rats pancreatic histopathological induced by alloxan. The effective dose of mangosteen leaves extract for pancreatic histopathology repaired induced by alloxan was dose of 130 mg/kg BW.
