Abstract

Ricinus (Ricinus communis Linn.) are contain ricinin, ricinin are toxic alkaloid compounds. Ricinus roots are used as anti-asthma and anti-allergy, longterm use is suspected able to cause toxicity in the liver. The method used was oral rapid subchronic toxicity study over 28 days. The reaserch were conducted males and females Wistar rats (Rattus norvegicus) each of 25 rats, that was divided into five group they are I, II, III, IV and V they given PGA, 100, 500, 1000, and 1000 mg / kg weight ethanolic extract of the ricinus root respectively. The parameters used include weight gain, levels of ALT and AST and histopathology. The statistical analysis was weight, the levels of ALT, AST levels was conducted using two-way analysis of variance (Anova). The results of the analysis obtained the statistical assessment data was normally distributed (p> 0.05) but not homogeny (p <0.05), not significant differences from each treatment group but not difference between the sexes. The histopathology tests showed in the liver was high levels of damage in the highest dose group and the satellite when compared to normal controls.
