Abstract
Acne is a common skin disorder that one cause is the Propionibacterium acnes. Tanjung leaf (Mimusops elengi L.) contain alkaloid, flavonoid, saponin, triterpenoid, and tannin. The aim of experiment was to find out the activity of nhexane fraction, ethyl acetate fraction, water fraction and ethanol extract of tanjung leaf (Mimusops elengi L.) as antibacterial against P. acnes ATCC 11827. Tanjung leaf was extracted by percolation using ethanol 70% solvent and then fractionated using n-hexane, ethyl acetate, and water solvents. The n-hexane fraction, ethyl acetate fraction, water fraction and ethanol extract were tested for its antibacterial activity using dilution method. Concentration of 30%; 15%, 7.5%; 3.75%; 1.87%; 0.93%; 0.46%; 0.23%; 0.117%; and 0.05% to determine the value of MIC (Minimum Inhibitory concentration) and MBC (Minimum Kill Concentration). Identification of compounds on the most active fraction carried by Thin Layer Chromatography (TLC). Based on the results of this study indicate that the MBC ethanolic extract 15%, fraction of n-hexane 1,87%, ethyl acetate 3,75%, and water 15% against P. acnes ATCC 11827. The n-hexane fraction of tanjung leaf had the most effective antibacterial activity than others. MIC can not be observed as dark extract color and turbidity is high. The identification result by TLC from fraction of n-hexane which is alleged to have antibacterial activity of essential steroids.
