Abstract

Piper betle L. is one plant commonly used as an alternative treatment and beneficial sets as antibacterial. Chemical content betel fruit that serves as antibacterial is essential oil, saponin, tanin and terpenoid. The study almed to test antibacterial activity extract etanolik, and water, chloroform, n-hexane fraction from betel fruit agains Streptococcus mutans ATCC 25175 by method dilution. The extraction of betel fruit extracted by maceration with ethanol 70% then it was fractionated by water use, chloroform, and n-hexsane. Extract and fractions tested antibacterial activity by of dilution method with concentration of 50%, 25%, 12,5%, 6,25%, 3,12%, 1,56%, 0,78%, 0,39%, 0,19%, 0,09% MBC (minimum concentration). The results of this research indicate that extracts of etanolik, n-hexane fraction, the fraction of water, chloroform fraction has antibacterial activity against Streptococcus mutans ATCC 25175 KBM value respectively 3,12%, 50%, 6,25% , 0,78%. Chloroform fraction has the most effective antibacterial activity than etanolik extracts, the fraction of water and n-hexane fraction.
