Abstract

Diarrheal disease clinically defined as an increase of defecation more than usual or more than three times a day, accompanied by change in the consistency of faeces with or without blood. Escherichia coli are many found in human colon as normal flora, and can turn into a pathogen if the growth in body exceeds to normal limits. This study was aimed to determine the effect of ethanol extract combination of pare and aloe vera gel with ratio of (1/2:1/2), (1/3:2/3), (2/3:1/3) and potentially provide the most optimum Minimum Bacericidal Concentration value to Escherichia coli ATCC 25 922. Test of antibacterial effectiveness ethanol extract combination of pare and aloe vera gel was done by determine the Minimum Bacericidal Concentration (MBC) value using dilution method. Comparison ethanol extract concentration of pare and aloe vera gel which used were (1/2:1/2), (1/3:2/3), (2/3:1/3) with extract concentration used were 20%; 10%; 5%; 2.5%; 1.25%; 0.625%; 0.313%; 0.156%. Based on these results, that the ethanol extract combination of pare and aloe vera gel had antibacterial effect to Escherichia coli by in vitro with Minimum Bacericidal Concentration (MBC) for all comparisons was 10%.
