Abstract

Lipstick is the most important cosmetic products used for women. Lipstick is a mixture of wax, oil, and pigment in various concentration producing a certain product. Recently, there are still many lipsticks containing heavy metal such as lead (Pb). This research aims to determine the amount of lead (Pb) metal content in several kinds of lipsticks in Ir. Soekarno Market, Sukoharjo. This research uses the atomic absorption spectrophotometry method to determine the amount of lead (Pb) heavy metal read in the 217 nm wavelength. The four samples used are Sample A (pencil lipstick), Sample B (liquid pencil), Sample C (crayon lipstick), Sample D (sheer lipstick). The sample preparation was done through wet destruction using 75% HNO3 and 35% HCl. The result of the research shows that the amount of lead (Pb) metal in sample A is 5,8580 mg/kg ; sample B is 5,8147 mg/kg; sample C is 17,5546 mg/kg; and sample D is 0.1342 µg/g. Based on those results, it can be concluded that the lipsticks used as the sample do not exceed the amount of lead threshold stated in the Indonesian Regulation of the Head of the Food and Drugs Supervisory Agency No.17 2014 on Aamaandment to the Regulation of the Head of the Food and Drugs Supervisory Agency No. HK.03.1.23.07.11.6662 in 2011 about the Requirements of Microbacteria and Heavy Metal Contamination in Cosmetics, stating that the contamination threshold amount of lead in cosmetics is ≤ 20 mg/kg or 20 mg/L (20 bpj).
