Abstract

Methyl salicylate is a topical analgesic drug.Methyl salicylate was made cream preparation with addition of excipient and additive.Additional material which have an important role is solid paraffin as thickener. The purpose of this study was to determine the physical quality and stability of methyl salicylate cream whichmade with variousconcentration of different solid paraffin. The study was conducted by production of 3 methyl salicylatecreams formula with concentration variation of solid paraffin 1.5%, 2% and 2.5%.The resulting cream was tested organoleptic, homogeneity, pH, viscosity, adhesion, anddispersive.Data were analyzedstatistically using ANOVA one way, if there are differences then continued to Post Hoc Multiple Comparisons chosen was tukey. The results showed that methyl salicylate could be made cream preparation with concentration variation of paraffin solidum whichmeet the test of physical quality and stability of cream. From the threecreamsformula, hadgood of physical quality that includes organoleptic test, homogeneity, pH, viscosity, adhesion, dispersive and stability of the cream, because meet the requirements of physical quality of cream stability.
