Abstract

Bitter melon (Momordica charantia L.) has been used as medicinal plant. Bitter melon contains flavonoid, alkaloid, saponins, and polyphenol wich have activity as antibacterial and anti-acne. The aim of this study was to find out whether bitter melon extract cream with variation of stearic acid and triethanolamin could be made cream product which met the physical quality test. The creams were made in 3 formulas with difference concentrations of stearic acid and triethanolamin. Formula I (10,9g : 2,36g) , formula II (11,7g : 1,56g), formula III (12,5g : 0,76g). The obtained creams were physically tested including organoleptic, homogeneity, pH, viscosity, dispersive power, adhesiveness, and type of cream. Result of the test was analyzed statistically by one way Anova continued with Tukey Post Hoc test at 95% confidence to know the best and the most stable cream formula during storage.. The result of the study showed that bitter melon extract cream with variation of stearic acid and triethanolamin had an effect on the physical quality test. According to the test’s result formula III had the best physical quality with value high viscosity, high adhesiveness, and small dispersive power formula 1 and 2 with concentrations of stearic acid and triethanolamin (10,9g :2,36g) and (11,9g : 1,56g).
