Abstract

One of the natural ingredients that have health giving properties is turmeric (Curcuma domestica Val). Turmeric is a plant that most of its content consists of curcumin. The yellow color of turmeric caused kurkuminoid compound which is the main component of plant turmeric and has an important role in the anti-inflammatory activity. This study aims to determine whether turmeric rhizome extract can be prepared gel and the effect of variations in the concentration Carbopol 940 and propilenglikol to test the physical quality and stability of turmeric rhizome extract gel. Turmeric extract is obtained by maceration using 96% ethanol, the extract has been obtained then made 3 turmeric rhizome extract gel formula with varying concentrations Carbopol 940 and propilenglikol, the formula I (2.45%: 15%), formula II (2,75%: 14.7%), formula III (3.05: 14.4%). Evaluation was conducted in the week 1 to week 4 of the physical quality tests include: organoleptic test, homogeneity, pH, viscosity test, adhesion test, and test the scatter. Data analysis SPSS Statistics 18.0 version with one-way ANOVA and Independent T-Test. The results showed turmeric rhizome extract can gel formulation with variations in the concentration of Carbopol 940 and propilenglikol that affect the physical quality test gel. The greater the concentration of Carbopol 940 resulting in a high viscosity, low dispersive power and high adhesion.
