Abstract

Many bilirubin examinations still use spectrophotometric method. The observation results demonstrate that samples do not receive enough treatments before analysis; and therefore, samples are not well treated. Bilirubin examination using spectrophotometric method is highly influenced by some determining factors. This study aims at investigating the difference of total bilirubin level in examination of fresh serum and examination of serum after 24 hours storage. This study is an analytical-experimental research with serum samples. The primary data were processed statistically using SPSS 17 version computer application and independent sample t-test with the significance level of p>0.05. The results of research on the primary data of 30 serum samples show that the average total bilirubin examined directly and after being stored for 24 is 0.4 + 1.9 mg/dl. The analysis results of independent sample t-test in direct examination and in examination after 24 hours storage are 0.890 and 0.559. Therefore, it can be concluded that there is a difference in total bilirubin level between direct examination and examination after 24 hours storage with significance level of 0.000. Keywords: Total bilirubin, time delay.
