Abstract

Escargot mucus (Achatina fulica Ferr) contain antimicrobial peptides achasin. Utilization of escargot mucus traditionally is not practical so need a suitable preparation in the form of a gel. The aim this study proportion Carbopol 940 and propilenglikol needs to produce a gel with a good physical quality and antibacterial activity of optimum formula escargot mucus gel against Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 25923. Optimization needs to be produce a gel with a good physical quality is one method that can be used to simplex lattice design. There are three formulas which consisted of 0,5 %, 1%, 1,5 % Carbopol 940 and 17,5 %. 18 %, 18,5 % propilenglikol. Formula made and then tested to find the optimum formula using Design Expert 8.0.6.1 for parameter spreadibility, adhesion strength, viscosity, and shift of viscosity. The optimum formula was validated by comparing total score responses between predictions and experimental results using t-test at a significance level of 95%. The results of t-test showed no difference between predictions and experimental results. The optimum proportion of escargot mucus gel was 0,807% Carbopol 940 and 18,193% propilenglikol. Antibacterial activity optimum formula against Stapylococcus aureus ATCC 25923 with an average diameter zone of inhibition 1,92 cm.
