Abstract

Dental plaque is a dental hard tissue disease, is email, dentil, and cementum, which is caused by the activity of a microorganism in a carbohydrate that can be fermented. Preparations commonly used is toothpaste used to help clean teeth. Therefore, research that can be used to prevent the growth of dental plaque on denture acrylic resin plate. The purpose of this study was to determine the ability of the combination of the ethanol extract of the leaves and areca nuts gods crown in dosage forms toothpaste to inhibit the breeding of bacteria Streptococcus mutans on denture acrylic resin plate. This research was conducted on the quality of physical testing toothpaste that is testing its homogeneity, organoleptic, viscosity, spread power, test the acidity of pH and anti-bacterial activity. On testing anti bacterial acrylic resin used discs measuring 10x10x1 mm 13 units sterilized and immersed in 10 ml suspension of S. mutans for 24 hours at 37°C. Twelve pieces of acrylic resin discs were divided into 4 groups, one piece acrylic resin discs were used as controls. The fourth group were immersed for 1x24 hours in each base with different concentrations at room temperature. Each tube conikel dilution series then drop on 1 petri dish so BHIB and incubated in the incubator for 48 hours at 37 ° C. The same thing is done on the tube conikel numbers 2-13, and then calculated the number of bacterial colonies using a oneway analysis of variance and t-test. In research result based on testing for physical quality toothpaste to generated has its homogeneity is good with pink and pink browning during storage. Prolonged storage influence on the quality of the physical material of ethanol extract toothpaste leaves crown god and seeds of areca nut. Test results based on the inhibition of bacteria on ethanol extract toothpaste leaves crown god 1% and 1,5% seeds of areca nut has the largest inhibition of 17,74 and a small number of bacterial colonies growing on plates BHIB medium showed that the amount of KHM in the preparation of toothpaste combination of ethanol extract of leaves crown god 1% and 1,5% seeds of areca nut at 98.92% have a preventive effect and the best bacteria can inhibit the growth of Streptococcus mutans on acrylic resin plate.
