Abstract

The library is a place where we read books, look for references, discussions etc. In order to support the library functions will require a comfortable reading table and chair. From the recapitulation there are some complaints about the tables and chairs in the university library faithfully read the favor of Surakarta. This study tried to design a comfortable reading table and chair. The method used is anthropometry and kansei engineering. By using both of these methods will be obtained in accordance with the design posture and psychological users or user feeling. So we get a comfortable reading table and chair. From the results, the design dimension tables and chairs read in accordance with the posture and psychological users. Dimensions of the table are the result of design width: 69 cm, length: 75 cm, height: 65 cm, height footrest: 23 cm, height limiting the view: 35 cm, length footrest: 56 cm, width footrest: 23 cm, and width of the shelf on the table: 23 cm. Dimensions are sized chair designed by a high pedestal: 41 cm, width of base: 38 cm, backrest height: 53 cm, length of the base: 43 cm, width of backrest: 38 cm, and high grip: 22 cm. Table and chairs designed by expressed more comfortable because of the results of self-assessment questionnaire, table and chairs designed by having a greater value than the existing table and chair reading (table: 3.93> 3.78 and chairs: 4.34> 3.47 ).
