Abstract

Diabetes mellitus can be caused by the destruction of pancreatic β cells resulting in the body can not produce insulin to lower blood glucose. Garlic has been widely studied in terms of the antihyperglycemic activity. The content of flavonoids in garlic could be expected to repair damaged pancreatic β cells. This study aims to determine the effect of garlic extract combined with glibenclamide in lowering blood glucose levels in male mice strain Balb / C alloxan induced. This study uses induction test diabetogenic, alloxan monohydrate 100 mg / kg. Test animals used in this study were male white mice strains Balb / C as many as 30 individuals were divided into six treatment groups ie, negative control (cmc 0.5%), glibenclamide, garlic extract, garlic extract and combination-glibenclamide ( 25%: 75%); (50%: 50%); (75%: 25%) for 9 days. Glucose results can be viewed using glukometer. The results obtained were analyzed mengguanakan one way ANOVA and Tukey HSD also. The results of this study indicate that the combination of garlic extract and garlic extract-glibenclamide has antihyperglycemic activity. Antihyperglycemic effect of garlic extract combination comparable with glibenclamide glibenclamide-sole. So giving a combination of garlic extract-glibenclamide can replace the single antidiabetic drug delivery in terms of lowering blood glucose levels.
