Abstract

Savor the mangosteen pericarp as traditional medicine has been studied scientifically, but research on the effects of anti-diarrhea has not been done. Infusion of mangosteen pericarp is thought to contain tannin. Tannin has antidiarrheal activity. This study aims to determine the effect of intravenous antidiarrheal mangosteen pericarp (Garcinia mangostana L.). These study used a formula mangosteen rind infusion dose 6 mg/20 g bb mice, 11 mg/20 g mice and 17 mg/20 g mice, negative control (aquadest) and positive control (loperamide HCl). Testing for antidiarrheal effects done by the method of protection against diarrhea caused by oleum ricini Antidiarrheal activity were showed by parameters of the diarrheal stool frequency, stool weight and stool consistency. The results were analyzed using the Kruskal-Wallis test. The results showed that there were significant differences in the frequency of diarrhea and weight of the five treatment groups, whereas the parameters for fecal stool consistency there is no significant difference, but there antidiarrheal activity pericarp of mangosteen infusion.
