Abstract
One of the factors that can reduce the rate of infection in surgery is by administering prophylactic antibiotics. Prophylactic antibiotics used should be safe, bactericidal and effective against bacteria. This study aims to determine the use of prophylactic antibiotics for orthopedic surgery with TKR and THR measures and conformity with the guidebook of Antimicrobial Prophylaxis and Therapy Edition I Orthopedic Hospital Prof Dr R Soeharso Surakarta. The study was an observational study with the type of descriptive study through medical record recruitment, performed retrospectively on orthopedic surgical patients with TKR and THR at the Orthopedic Hospital Prof Dr R Soeharso Surakarta in 2017 with criteria of patients receiving prophylactic antibiotics, adult patients with age 50-70 years, have no other comorbidities. The data obtained from the medical record in the evaluation of its accuracy in accordance with the criteria made. Based on the results of this study, the number of patients in this study were 150 patients undergoing orthopedic surgery with TKR and THR measures with 38 male and 112 female patients and the most commonly used prophylactic antibiotics were cefazolin (96.6%), which has a broad spectrum of work that is effective against both Gram positive and Gram negative bacteria.
