Abstract

Prednisone is used in the treatment of allergy, inflammation, rheumatism, collagen diseace and skin disease. The commercial dosage form are available in the brand and generic products type both of them have difference in formulation and fablication. Prednisone included in BCS class II, so is necessary to do comparative dissolution test to ensure similarity the physical quality properties. This study was aimed to know and to compare the physical quality and the similarity of dissolution profile (F2). This study used 5 tablets Prednisone consists of two kinds of brand products (ODA, ODB) and three kinds of generic products (OGC, OGD, and OGE). Dissolution tests was conducted according to Depkes RI using type 2 apparatus (paddle method), the speed of rotation 50 rpm, in 500 ml aquadest medium at 37 ± 0.5 ° C. Determination of Prednisone tablets dissolution using a UV spectrophotometer at 245 nm. The parameter observed were Q30, DE30 and the similarity factor (F2). The result of Q30 and DE30 parameters showed that all test products could meet the requirements of dissolution test, while for the value of similarity factor (F2) test for some products showed equivalence, i.e. product ODB – OGD 73.17 ; product ODB – OGE 52.53 ; product OGC – OGD 54.63; product OGC – OGE 51.91 ; product OGD – OGE 57.95.
