Abstract

Daun Sendok Plant (Plantago major L) is a medicinal plant traditionally used by the Indonesian community to treat various diseases including diarrhea, diabetes, skin diseases and vaginal discharge. This research was conducted to determine the antibacterial activity of n-hexane fraction, ethyl acetate fraction, and water fraction against Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 25923. Extraction of Daun Sendok soxhletasi method with 70 % ethanol, and then fractionated using different solvents polarity level, the results of fractionation test antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 25923 using diffusion and dilution methods. Fraction concentration diffusion method was used for 50 %, 25 %, and 12.5 %, whereas concentration used for dilution method was 25 %, 12.5 %, 6.25 %, 3.12 %, 1.56 % , 0.78 %, 0.39 %, 0.195 %, 0.097 %, 0.048 %. The research showed that the n-hexane fraction showed the least antibacterial activity, in water and ethyl acetate fraction showed antibacterial activity, but the ethyl acetate fraction showed the greatest antibacterial activity shown by the average diameter of inhibition respectively 20 mm, 17,5 mm, 16 , 5 mm. Ethyl acetate fraction with dilution test showed the most active antibacterial activity against the most active antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 25923 with a minimum concentration of 0.048% suicide.
