Abstract
Lifestyle changes in society cause gastrointestinal disease which is peptic ulcer. Peptic ulcer disease is condition where there is damage of gastric mucosa followed by inflammatory proces. The disease caused due to use drugs of NSAID class. This study was aimed to determine antiulcer activity of ethanolic extract combination of ginger and turmeric rhizomes to grastric of male rat wistar strain induced diclofenac sodium. Rat as much as 30 rats were divided into 6 groups. Group I: normal control, Group II: positive control given diclofenac sodium dose of 0.45 mg/kg BW + Omeprazole 0.36 mg/kg BW, Group III: negative control diclofenac sodium 0.45 mg/kg BW, group IV: diclofenac sodium 0.45 mg/kg BW and combination of ginger & turmeric 30:10 mg/200 g BW, Group V: diclofenac sodium 0.45 mg/kg BW and combination of ginger & turmeric 20:20 mg/200 g BW, Group VI: diclofenac sodium 0.45 mg/kg BW and combination of ginger & turmeric 10:30 mg/200 g BW. After seventh day rat necropsied then seen ulcer based on total ulcer score and ulcer diameter. Histology observation of ulcer was seen based on damage and density of cell. Data was analyzed by non-parametric statistical test of Kruskal-Wallis test to determine the presence or absence of differences in all groups. The results showed that ethanolic extract combination of ginger and turmeric rhizomes had antiulcer activity. Extract that have the most effective antiulcer activity was combination of ginger & turmeric 30:10 mg/200 g BW rat. Keywords: antiulcer activity, ethanolic extract, ginger, turmeric
