Abstract
Methyl salicylate or commonly known as gandapura oil is one group of salicylates that have efficacy as analgesic to relieve pain. Emulgel preparations can be more easily mixed with hydrophobic drugs, in addition the preparations have a good spreading power, have better physical stability when compared with cream or ointment. This study aims to determine the effect of concentration variation carbopol 940 and HPMC on the physical quality of emulgel methyl salicylate. Preparation of methyl salicylate was prepared 3 formulas with variation concentration carbopol 940 2%, 3%, dan 4%, HPMC 3%, 4%, 5%. Physical quality testing of emulgel was done for 3 weeks, the test included of organoleptis, homogeneity, stickiness, spreading, viscosity, pH and stability. The data were analized using statistical test with SPSS Statistics version 21 with one way anova method and independent T-test. The results showed that variation of carbopol 940 and HPMC concentration influenced viscosity, spreading, stickiness and organoleptic, but did not affect homogeneity and pH. The higher the concentration of carbopol 940 and HPMC used as the gelling agent, higher the viscosity value and the greater the adhesion force but the smaller the proliferation. The test results showed that the three emulgel methyl salicylate formulas had good physical quality during the three weeks storage period.
