Abstract

Citronella Fragrance (Cymbopogon nardus L. Rendle) is one of the plants which is widely found in realms of society and has many benefits. One of them is as anti mosquito (repellent). The aim of this research is to know the distillation of leaf and stem citronella fragance (Cymbopogon nardus L. Rendle) with glycerin variation can be made into gel preparation and to know the concentrate of glycerin in gel preparation with best physical quality. This research was conducted by using the method of distillation, where the leaves and stems of citronella fragrance are blended and the water is taken. The distillation is then mixed in a gel preparation prepared by various glycerin concentrate, is in formula I 20%, formula II 30%, and formula III 40%. Then tested organoleptis, homogeneity, viscosity, adhesion, spreading, and pH then tested on day 0, day 7, and day-14. The results showed that the distillation of leaf and stem citronella fragrance (Cymbopogon nardus L. Rendle) with glycerin variation can be made gel preparation and can be tested the physical quality, it is shown that glycerin affect the viscosity of the preparation. The higher the concentrate of glycerin the higher the degree of viscosity. All preparations meet the requirements of the physical quality test of the gel.
