Abstract

Laboratory officer are the first to be confronted by a variety of health risks, safety and accidents at work for example chemicals that are toxic, corrosive, explosive and flammable and biological materials. Because of this high risk, better guidelines and practice of self protection is needed to protect all who work in this area.To prevent accidents, one of which is done byusing self protection equipments (SPE) appropriately. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect self protection equipments (SPE) usage to health, safety and accidentin laboratory assistantof Dr. Soeradji Tirtonegoro Hospital Klaten. This study was observational with cross sectional approach followed by a quantitative method to determine the effect of self protection equipments (SPE) usage to health, safety, and accident at work. Data collection techniquewere questionnaire, observation, library research, and documentation. Data analysis using F test and t-test by SPSS version 17.0. The results showed that there was significant effect between self protection equipments (SPE) to health (t = 2.227), safety (t = 2.283), and accident (t = 2.169) partially. Simultaneously, the self protection equipments (SPE) did not affect health, safety, and accident (F = 2.504). Keywords: self protection equipments (SPE), Health, Safety, Accident, Laboratory.
