Abstract

Phagocytosis is a non-specific immune responses, had a role to fight against foreign particles that into the body such as microorganisms, macromolecules including antigens, the cells or tissues are damaged or die. Solanum torvum Swartz (Solanaceae), known as takokak is a medicinal plant which has phagocytosis activity. The purpose of this research is to know the effect of n-hexane fraction of the ethanol extract of fruit S. torvum decreased phagocytosis activity in mice. This research used Balb/c males mice that are divided into 7 groups are negative control CMC 0.5% (group I), methyl prednisolone as Positive control (group II ) with doses of 0.5 mg/kg bw of mice, doses n-hexane fraction of the ethanol extract of fruits S. torvum fruit (group III, IV, V, VI and VII) is 10; 20; 40; 80; 120 mg/kg bw. Mice were given a single dose of sample test for 7 days. On the 8th day, mice were given carbon suspension 0.1 ml/ 20 g bb iv. The blood taken through venous orbitalis and read its absorbance with spectrophotometry Uv-Vis (650 nm). Phagocytosis indexs were analyzed using one way anova test. The results showed that n-hexane fraction of the ethanol extract of fruits S. torvum with dose 10; 20; 40; 80; 120 mg/kg bw decreasing the phagocytosis activity with an phagocytosis index 0.828; 0,588; 0,475; 0,322; 0,240 respectively.
