Abstract

Chrome is one of the metals used in the electroplating process because it is resistant to corrosion and discoloration. Metal Chromium is a chemical that has toxicity and carcinogenic nature hence waste generated harmful to human health. This study aims to determine the decrease in chromium content after the addition of concentration of extract and guava leaf powder on artificial waste and electroplating waste. This research was experimentally with Artificial waste and electroplating done with the addition of extract and guava leaf powder with a concentration of 0.5%; 1.0%; 1.5% and 2.0%. Chromium levels were measured using Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometry. The result of determination level was processed by statistic test that was ANOVA three direction. Artificial waste and electroplating chromium levels before treatment of 314.97 ppm and 644.90 ppm. Berdasarkan Peraturan Daerah Provinsi Jawa Tengah no. 5 th 2012 batas maksimum krom total sebesar 0,5 ppm, the waste has exceeded the quality standard of waste water. The decrease of Artificial and electroplating chromium content with guava leaf extract were (25,51%; 31,38%; 32,22%; 36,20%) and (27,54%; 45,40%; 51,20%, 56.61%), with guava leaf powder respectively (22.99%, 26.05%, 28.51%; 34.24%) and (8.99%; 14.37 %; 33.90%; 55.42%). The biggest decrease in chromium content is in the addition of guava leaf extract. Keywords : chromium, artificial waste and electroplating, guava leaf concentration, atomic absorption spectrophotometry.
