Abstract
One of the plants that are empirically efficacious diuretic is root imperata (Imperata cylindrica var. major (Nees) C.E.Hubl.). Herbal diuretic is expected to be more secure than synthetic diuretics. The main function of diuretics is to mobilize edema fluid, which means changing the balance of fluid in such a way that the extracellular fluid volume returned to normal. Aimed of this study to determined the diuretic effect of ethanol extract of alang-alang roots on Wistar male rats. Imperata (Imperata cylindrica var. major (Nees) C.E.Hubl.) roots powder were extracted by maceration. Extract was tested in animal test to determine the diuretics effect compared with manitol (20%). Diuretic test was conducted using diuretics method, ie imposing any material with a dose of 2.5 ml/200 g BW. This method uses 25 animals Wistar male rats were divided into 5 groups: group I (negative control), group II (positive control), group III, IV, V, animals test were given by air, manitol 20%, ethanol extract dose of 2,25; 4,5; 9 mg / 200g BW respectivelly. Animals test in the metabolic cage, is measured urine volume in hours2, 4, 6, 8 and 12. Diuretic effect is obtained by calculating the cumulative urine volume and AUC (Area Under the Curve). The data obtained were analyzed by one way ANOVA with a level of 95% significant, then test by LSD (Least Significant Difference). The results showed that AUC 2-6 value, positive control and ethanol extract of root imperata leaves dose 4,5 and 9 mg / 200g body weight there were significant differences (p <0.05) with negative controls (mean on the hour to 2-6, have demonstrated a diuretic effect). The result of AUC AUC 8-12, indicates that the positive control and ethanol extract dose of 9 mg / 200g body weight was significantly different (p <0.05) with a negative control. This means, a second dose manitol and have diuretic effects. Keywords: root imperata, ethanol
