Abstract

Plants Kepel (Stelechocarpus burahol (Bl.) Hook f. & Th.) is a plant that can be used as a traditional medicine that have properties such as antioxidants, reduce uric acid levels and lower cholesterol levels. Flavonoids and polyphenols contained in the leaves be expected of Kepel can lower cholesterol levels. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of ethanolic leaf extract of Kepel to the decrease in total serum cholesterol levels of white male wistar rats. This study uses the test animals by 30 rats. Test animals were divided into 6 groups each group consisted of 5 rats. I as a normal control group, group II was given CMC 0.5% as a negative control, group III was given simvastatin as a positive control, group IV, V and VI as a control test given ethanolic extract of Kepel leaves with three variations of the dose of 7.64 mg / 200 g BB; 15.28 mg/200 g BB; 22.92 mg / 200 g BB. Test animals were given lard and egg yolk for two weeks until the state of hypercholesterolemia, and then given a test preparation until day 28. Cholesterol levels were measured on days 0, 14th and 28th. The method used for the measurement of cholesterol levels is CHOD-PAP. Results of this study indicate that all three treatment groups ethanolic leaf extract of Kepel has the effect of lowering cholesterol levels. From statistical test results, obtained an average decrease in cholesterol levels dose of 7.64 mg / 200 g BB (86.20 mg / dL); 15.28 mg/200 g BB (77.20 mg / dL); 22.92 mg/200 g BB (66 mg / dL), while the most effective dose was 22.92 mg/200 g BW dose equivalent dose simvastatin 0.18 mg/200 g BB.
