Abstract

Hyperlipidemia, especially hypercholesterolemia cause increased levels of LDL (Low Density Lipoprotein) thus forming plaque on walls of blood vessels and cause atherosclerosis which is the main cause of coronary heart disease. Leaves of peanut (Arachis hypogaea L) is a plant that can be used as a medicine to lower the cholesterol levels. This study was to prove the influence and effective dosage ethanolic extract of peanut leaf for decrease total cholesterol levels of hypercholesterolemic rats. The rats were allocated randomly into 5 groups, each group consisted of 5 rats. Cholesterol levels measuring has done at 0, 10th, and 24th day. Conditions of hiperkolesterolemi done by giving the lard and quail eggs for 10 days. The treatments are given for 14 days according to the group treated. Ethanolic extract of peanuts leaf dosage given to the rats are the dosage I : 8,64 mg/ 200 g BB, dosage II : 17,28 mg/ 200 g BB dan dosage III : 34,56 mg/ 200 g BB. Positive control of this study is simvastatin and negative control is CMC 0,5%. Data were analyzed by one way ANOVA. The results of this study shown that ethanolic extract of peanuts leaf have an activity to decrease the total cholesterol level in all three variations dose at day 24. At dosage 17,28 mg/ 200 g BB have an activity to decrease the total cholesterol level that almost equivalent with simvastatin.
