Abstract

Oyong seed (Luffa acutangula (L) Roxb.) is plant used for the treatment of diabetes mellitus. This study aims to determine the hypoglycemic effects and and comparisons combination of oyong seed infuse with glibenclamid as well as metformin which most effective in mice that were given a glucose load. Glucose load method test was used to diagnose DM to know the ability of the body to absorb glucose. The test animals were devided in 10 group: the negative control group (aquadestillata), 0,013 mg/20 g bw glibenclamid, 1,3 mg/20 g bw metformin, 0,4 ml/20 g bw oyong seed infuse, combination of oyong seed infuse and glibenclamid 3:1, 1:1, 1:3, combination of oyong seed infuse and metformin 3:1, 1:1, 1:3. The blood glucose levels were measured at minute 30, 60, 120 and 180. The obtained data were analyzed by one way ANOVA (significant set at p <0.05). The results showed that all combinations of oyong seed infuse and glibenclamid decreased blood glucose levels in mice that were given a glucose load significantly. Whereas, combinations of oyong seed infuse and metformin were not gave blood glucose levels decreased significantly. As of oyong seed infuse was replaced glibenclamid dose. Second, all combinations of oyong seed infuse and glibenclamid decreased blood glucose levels comparable to glibenclamid. Combination of oyong seed infuse and glibenklamid 0,75:0,25 decreased blood glucose level the most effective. Keywords: Luffa acutangula (L) Roxb., glucose load, blood glucose level, infuse
