Abstract
Lanang onion (Allium sativum L) has been used by the community for the treatment of various diseases. The purpose of this study to determine whether fresh squeezed lanang onion bulbs (Allium sativum L) can cause biochemical changes that increased levels of the ALT / AST enzymes and have an influence on damage of histological structur of white mice liver? and what dose of fresh squeezed lanang onion bulbs (Allium sativum L) give effect to damage of histological structur of white mice liver? Liver is important to live and because of its digestive tract between the vein, the liver can be easily damaged by toxic substances which absorbed because the liver not only receive blood from the arteri but also receive blood from the digestive tract via the portal vein that carries various of materials toxic to the liver. Subchronic toxicity test of fresh squeezed lanang onion bulbs performed at 42 white mice which divided into 4 groups, i.e 0.3185 gr / 200gr BW dose, 1.5925 gr / 200 gr BW dose, 3.185 g / 200 g BW dose and distilled water control, performed by biochemical analysis that measures the activity of Alanine amino transferase (ALT), aspartate amino transferase (AST) enzymes in blood on the day before treatment (T0), 30th days (T1), 60th days (T2) and 90th days (T3). Then rats were sacrificed on 90th days to saw the presence of abnormalities in liver macroscopically and microscopically (Histopathology). The results showed that the activity of the ALT, AST enzymes did not change significantly compared to T0 (P> 0.05). The histopathology results of liver in the treatment group and the control group had necrosis. During the 90th treatment days, the mice body weight of 0.3185 gr / 200 gr BW dose and 1.5925 gr / 200 gr BW dose decreased significantly (P <0.05) and 3.185 gr / 200 gr BW dose had increased body weight significantly (P> 0.05). The histopathological of liver at 0,3185 gr/ 200 gr BW, 1,5925 gr /200 gr BB, 3,185 gr /200 gr BB dose group and control group had necrosis.
