Abstract

Wound is the destruction of skin and tissue disorders that are in it, such as blood vessels, nerves, muscles, bone membranes and sometimes the bone it self. People are starting to switch using materials from nature. Red betel planth as the potential to be developed as wound healer due to the chemical constituents such as saponins, alkaloids and tannins. The aim of the study was to find out the activity and the best concentration of red betel (Piper crocatum Ruiz & Pav) leaves ethanol extract ointment as wound healer on rabbit back. The method used to get red betel ethanol extract was maceration with ethanol 70% solvent. The formula of red betel leaf oinment was made of 3 kg red betel leaves with concentration of 12.5%, 25% and 50%, which is mixed with each base which used for healing wounds. The result of the study showed that red betel leaves ethanol extract ointment had the activity as wound healer, and at 50% concentration showed more effective results as seen macroscopically on the length of the wound healing. Statistically, there is no significant difference between the negative control and FI, FI and FII, and FIII showed significant difference with all treatment groups.
